Job Summary:
The Veterinary Assistant provides support to the veterinary team in delivering high-quality care and treatment to animals in a veterinary medicine setting. They assist with various tasks related to animal care, medical procedures, and administrative duties, ensuring the smooth operation of the veterinary practice.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist veterinarians and veterinary nurses in examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
2. Prepare and maintain examination rooms, surgical suites, and laboratory areas.
3. Handle and restrain animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
4. Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
5. Prepare and label laboratory samples for testing and record results accurately.
6. Clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments and equipment.
7. Monitor and record vital signs of animals before, during, and after procedures.
8. Provide general animal care, including feeding, grooming, and exercise.
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient.
10. Follow established safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
11. Assist with client communication and education regarding pet care and medications.
12. Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing client records.
13. Collaborate and communicate effectively with the veterinary team to ensure efficient workflow.
14. Stay updated with industry trends, veterinary techniques, and new medical advancements.
15. Adhere to all veterinary practice policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prior experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related animal care field is preferred.
3. Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and animal behavior.
4. Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and with compassion.
5. Proficient in basic animal care tasks, such as feeding, grooming, and cleaning.
6. Familiarity with administering medications, vaccinations, and treatments.
7. Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage various responsibilities effectively.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and colleagues.
9. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
10. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.
11. Basic computer skills for maintaining electronic medical records and performing administrative tasks.
